Cava sustainablity
PACKAGING
Known for its fresh ingredients and bold flavors, faced backlash for using PFAS in its packaging, highlighting the urgent need for an eco-friendly alternative that aligns with its values.
I redesigned Cava’s takeout experience with a sustainable, biodegradable solution inspired by Papyrus Egypt’s banana fiber-based materials. The new packaging includes a compostable bowl and pita chip box made from agricultural waste, with a starch-based film replacing plastic lids—an innovation borrowed from boba tea’s heat-sealed closures. The visual design embraces Mediterranean heritage, featuring custom tile-inspired patterns and subtle icons representing fresh ingredients.
This project demonstrates that sustainability and functionality can coexist in fast-casual dining. Cava’s redesigned packaging reduces waste while preserving brand identity, proving that environmentally responsible design can set new industry standards without compromising convenience or aesthetics.
